How do we operate?

Searchrsa is an executive search firm. Our job is to find people for difficult to fill positions or to give our clients greater choice in their hiring. We make a difference when the role that is needed to be filled is one of those roles that employing only the very best will do. We do this by having our consultants work a specialist desk, focusing on a narrow niche and becoming experts at it.

What is a desk?

In the executive search industry the term desk is often bandied about. The term coming from the image of a recruiter working behind a desk. For the purpose of this discussion a desk is a market niche which is either skill based or industry based (or a little of each). A skill based desk is a niche that is characterised by a specific qualification or skill set of the candidate. An example would be an accountant, an accountant is a skill and we could specialise in placing accountants. As accountants can work in many industries our niche would be on the skill and not the industry. An industry based niche is a focus on a particular industry with one or multiple skills required within.

Why have a desk?

Our business is generated by conversations, in a typical year Searchrsa.com will make over 200 000 telephone calls into the market. The narrower our niche the better able we are to build a reputation in that niche and have access to most of the candidates and clients in the industry. The real determination for us on the scope of the niche is based on the number of placements we can make in a niche. We tighten the niche as much as possible while still making sure if is viable. Our ultimate goal is to become the expert advisor in the niche to both candidates and clients.

Why is this beneficial to our clients?

A business improves or dies hire by hire, thus hiring is a vital managerial activity. Two issues are important in hiring, one is that the hire does not take too long, and two that the people you interview are the best available. If we our niche is smaller enough we will know most of the people in the industry this means we can find people quickly and you can also be sure that the people we present are the best available.

Focusing on a niche also means we learn the technical issues related to the profession. We begin to understand the nature of the industry, technology and people. As a client you will have a trusted advisor who can converse strategically about the role and the industry itself.
